How to make the perfect cup of tea

  1. Roll out of bed really early. I’m up with the Amish, I like to say.
  2. Grab a favorite teacup. The one pictured says Tea is a Cup of Love (right?) and is made of some magical material that makes the tea seem to float in the cup.
  3. Select the flavor o’ the day. Maybe the holiday spice mix Santa Claus gave me last Christmas. Or Bing Cherry, love that one. The cherry flavor is awesome and the “Bing” reminds me of Chandler Bing from Friends, my unlikely doppelgänger sayeth my friend Diane because he, too, can never resist a joke. Then there’s Constant Comment which holds the memory of my first ever sip of tea. To this day, one whiff of that sweet orange scent and I’m back in Las Vegas at the Peppermill restaurant, an eager 18 years old and gazing at my new husband, 19, over our first breakfast together as a married couple. The marriage didn’t last but my love of tea did, so, bonus.
  4. Add a spoonful of honey. If I’m lucky I’ve got the good stuff that good friend Shawn or her mom, Lori, supply me: gourmet honey from designer bee butts (one assumes) from the Wednesday farmers market in Old Tustin. Oh, and the silver spoon I use to gently stir? It’s engraved with “Good Morning, Honey,” a gift from hubby Michael, awww ...
  5. Don’t forget the cookie! I find oatmeal chocolate chip cookies work best, figuring the oatmeal soaks up the calories, and if I’m wrong, don’t tell me.
  6. Bring tea and cookies, hopes and dreams, into the home office/writing cave to sip and enjoy while watching the sunrise and typing out stories just like this one.
  7. Repeat daily.
